Marian Pittman is Cox Media Group’s (CMG) Executive Vice President of Digital Strategy and Research. In this role, Marian leads a team charged with increasing digital audience and revenue across more than 100 media brands. Marian is responsible for CMG’s Digital Content Desk, Fans 1st Media, as well as CMG’s Research division. She also oversees Digital Operations, including strategy, analytics and fulfillment. She joined CMG’s corporate leadership team in 2013 as VP of News and Marketing, leading strategic decision-making for CMG’s award-winning television markets.
Marian’s investment in the future of media includes serving on the board of directors for the Interactive Advertising Bureau representing Cox Enterprises. She’s an active member of Facebook’s Journalism Project, dedicated to cultivating stronger ties between Facebook and the news industry with the goal of creating a healthy news ecosystem. She also serves as executive sponsor of the award-winning Georgia News Lab. A partnership with Georgia State University, the Georgia News Lab gives diverse college students the opportunity to learn investigative news skills by working alongside veteran reporters from WSB-TV and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She also is a founding member of CMG’s Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Council.
Marian’s esteemed media career began at CMG’s WSOC-TV in Charlotte, NC, followed by stints at WHIO-TV in Dayton, Ohio, WSB-TV in Atlanta, and WFTV in Orlando. She returned to WSB-TV in 2006 as news director. In 2012, she moved to station manager and oversaw news, programming, public affairs, and engineering for CMG’s flagship station. During her WSB-TV career, Marian led the daily news operations and long-term planning for more than 45 hours of news coverage each week. Under her direction, the station strengthened its dominant position as the North Georgia news leader.
Throughout her career, Marian has been honored with multiple individual and station Emmy awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Southeast Chapter. In 2010, the station was awarded the prestigious Alfred I. DuPont Award for journalistic excellence, the Edward R. Murrow award for overall excellence, as well as Best Newscast by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters. In 2008, Pittman was awarded Top 10 TV Managers of the Year by Television Week Magazine. Under Marian’s leadership, WSB-TV was awarded Best Newscast, Best Staff Coverage and Pacemaker Award from the Georgia Associated Press Broadcasters Association numerous times.
