Location: CONTENT FWD Stage 2
SCTE 35 has been used for decades to support Local Commercial Insertion into National Cable Networks by Cable Operators. The Standard has been amended multiple times with the intention of supporting advanced applications for OTT distribution including: Dynamic Ad Insertion, Content Replacement and/or Blackouts, and various live-to-VOD capabilities. As a result, the Standard is now so ambiguous that no two broadcasters are interpreting the specifications, nor using 35, in the same manner. A significant amount of confusion exists among the OTT Distributors - even to the extent that one Distributor recently disabled SCTE 35 processing altogether for some networks, further compounding the issue, and negating the intended benefit of the standard.
This session will describe a solution to the problem, enabling not only rich, frame accurate metadata to be delivered securely out of band, but also allow the metadata to be formatted at each receive location in any profile of SCTE 35, or delivered as a proprietary API provided by the distributor. This Cloud based solution will additionally enable a number of other useful functions; such as the automatic correction of lip-sync errors and interactivity for Broadcast/Network television using Internet connected smartphones and tablets.
