4K Camera and HDR Production Workshop

Wednesday, November 9 | 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

UHD, 4K, 5K, 6K, 8K, HDR, Color Spaces, Rec.709 vs. BT.2020, Log, LUT’s, RAW, Raw, raw?! What are they? When do you use them? How do you use them? As modern 4K+ digital cinema cameras evolve and become more affordable, it is important that you not only learn one particular camera system but how modern production works as a whole.

With digital cinema cameras from companies such as ARRI, Blackmagic, Canon, Panasonic, Sony & RED allowing for not only 4K acquisition but also HDR recording with huge color spaces, multiple recording options (resolutions & codecs), Raw & Log recording and plethora of other options, it’s hard to sort everything out. That’s what this workshop will focus on.

In this full day workshop with Jem Schofield of theC47, he will take attendees through the process of understanding how modern digital cinema cameras work so you can make informed decisions in terms of how to shoot your next project/s. While he will use certain cameras to go over these features and choices, the data covered in the workshop will apply to all modern digital camera systems.

Cinematic Video Lighting Workshop for HD and 4K Productions

Thursday, November 10 | 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

As resolutions in production increase (Ultra HD is four times the resolution of Full HD), the way you light your subjects becomes even more important. When your camera sees EVERYTHING, it’s your job to show your talent and locations in their best light. While the light sources that you use in video production and filmmaking are important, it’s how you shape and control those sources that really make the difference. And it’s even more important when we move from HD to 4K productions. In this full day workshop by Jem Schofield of theC47, he will focus on using light to achieve cinematic results (mainly low-key lighting techniques), in documentary, corporate and narrative productions. Focus will be in using small kits that don’t require large crews (common on today’s productions).

Passes to attend the UAV/Drone Workshop are $495. See registration packages for additional information.

Who Should Attend?

The workshop is designed for all digital media professionals wishing to incorporate UAV into their production workflow and for all UAV and Drone operators wishing to become pilots for commercial use.

Workshop Topics

Below is a list of topics and details covered during the workshop.

Is it Legal to Fly a Drone?

With the FAA’s announcement of the new FAR Part 107, there seems to be a tremendous confusion about what drone pilots may and may not do. This session will assure you understand how to become legal, what resources are available, and how to best setup to successfully pass the Part 107 test.  Taught by a FAA Certified Instructor.

Bringing UAV to your Production Environment

Congratulations, you are ready to incorporate UAV into your Production Kit, and this is the time to do it! How do you do it??  In this session we will cover how to effectively accomplish this assignment.  Identify exactly why you need the UAV:

  • Which UAV is better for the job at hand
  • How to train for the jobs before you begin advertising your new skills
  • Insurance
  • Defining your objectives
  • Editing your video

Taught by veteran UAV pilots, this session will make clear what your business needs to incorporate UAV into your production world.

Best practices in UAV cinematography

You have the right UAV and all the permits, and you are following all the regulations. You are ready to fly!

In this session we will cover what you need to know to maximize your time in the field and get the shot that you need. Following this unique “recipe” for the types of shots to get, you will be able to tell your story and communicate your message.

This session will include the following:

Creating a flight plan
Avoiding pitfalls
So, it’s windy today – what should you do?
Get these shots and you’ll be set!

Taught by veteran UAV operator/pilots, this session will show you what you need to know to be successful with your UAV.

Improving your aerial photography product

How do you get the most out of your Aerial Camera platform? In this session, we’ll discuss frame rates, filters, shutter speeds, methods of flying, and much more.

Virtually every sUAV/RTF drone in the air uses the same image-processing chip and most have similar lenses. None of them are ideal, and they all operate at very high shutter speeds. None of them allow for shutter speed control, and as a result, it's up to the user to slow the shutter speed. This can only be done through the use of filters.

There are three types of filters that benefit UAV/drone operators:

  • Polarizers
  • Neutral Density
  • Gradients

Each of these filters serves a particular purpose. In this session you’ll learn when to use each one of these to maximize the potential of your UAV and get the best footage you can possibly get.

Taught by veteran UAV pilots, this session will show you what you need to know to successfully incorporate filters with your UAV.

Choosing the right platform for your aerial needs

There are so many drones on the market today; which one is right for your particular needs? Do you need remote automation? Do you need precise positioning? What flight times are required? What sort of camera requirements do you have? Distance? Altitude? Data control? Transmission resolution? Indoors use? Outdoors use? Object avoidance?

All of these questions will be answered both theoretically and practically with a hangar full of drones for you to see, touch, and experience up close.  While we won’t be flying them in-house, you’ll see video from each system and understand the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Taught by a veteran UAV operator/pilot, this session details UAV tools available and how to choose the right UAV for your business.
